Don Lowry is no stranger to hard work. With Lowry’s 35 years of experience in the roofing industry, business partners Robert Burdett and Rodney Vaughn knew bringing him on board as another Mid-Ark and Central Arkansas Roofing partner would elevate the company. Since joining the team in 2017, Lowry’s leadership has brought about growth, especially in the commercial roofing sector, and an overall improvement to company culture. He accredits this success to his prioritization of teamwork.
“It’s always going to be easy for leadership to think we’re here because of us, and easy for our sales team to think we’re here because of them, and our crew to think we’ve made it this far because of them. But if it wasn’t for all of us working together, none of us would be where we are now.”
The importance of teamwork is ingrained in Lowry, partially because of his years spent on the basketball court.
In his childhood, he usually sat courtside on the bench. By his senior year, however, he grew and got comfortable in his 6’5” frame.
His skill and determination earned him a scholarship playing basketball at Central Baptist College in Conway.
During summer basketball, everything changed. His suffered a severe injury that would require three screws in his ankle and a year of recovery.
“I worked so hard to get to that point in my life, and just like that, everything changed.”
This experience shaped his priorities and helped him learn some important lessons; he’s not the one in control, and you can’t do life alone.
“The guys realize I’m here as a partner in the business, but I want to make our workplace like a family,” says Lowry. “I want the men and women who work here to feel just as important as any of our leadership. If we’re not conveying that, we’re not doing our job.”
Lowry’s faith is the driving force behind his dedication to excellence in his work.
“There’s somebody more powerful than me in my life. I don’t force my beliefs on anybody, but I want to make sure that the guys who may not have the same beliefs I have know that in times of trouble, we’re here to help.”
